Episode 136: Building a Winning Ad Strategy for Your Business

This podcast is brought to you by ColDesi

In Episode 136 of the CAS Podcast, we walk you through how to build an ad strategy that actually works—by starting with your niche and designing every element of your campaign to attract your Ideal Customer. Whether you’re running online ads or connecting with customers in person, this episode lays out a roadmap for turning ideas into profitable campaigns.

From choosing a niche to defining your message and tracking your results, this episode offers a strategic framework with real-life examples and actionable tips.

Step 1: Choose Your Niche

Success in advertising starts with knowing who you’re talking to. That’s why defining a niche is critical.

Example Niches:

● Fitness Coaches & Personal Trainers: Professionals who want to look good, build their brand, and make additional income.

● Local Moms (Pregnancy to Toddler Years): Community-minded moms who love personalized products for their kids and buying local.

A niche gives your ad campaign focus, helping you target the right audience, in the right place, with the right message.

Step 2: Build Your Customer Avatar

Once you choose your niche, create a detailed profile—or avatar—that represents your ideal customer. This includes demographics, behaviors, preferences, and motivations.

Example Avatars:

Fitness Trainer Avatar:

● Male, 25–45

● In shape, runs a personal training business

● Likes cool workout tees, interested in additional income

● Uses Instagram and shops online

Mom Avatar:

● Female, 20–30, small-town

● Loves customizing baby items

● Active in local community and social gatherings

● Shops at farmers markets and reads local news

This level of detail helps you answer key questions when creating ads: Why would they want your product? Where will they see your message? What kind of imagery or call to action will they respond to?

Step 3: Build the Ad Campaign

Now that you know who you’re targeting, you can build your campaign around what matters to them.

Key Questions to Guide Your Strategy:

● Why will your avatar want this?

● Where will they see the ad? (Social, Local Events, News?)

● What message will resonate most—saving time, earning money, self-image?

● What images or videos will capture their attention?

● What’s your call-to-action (CTA)? Buy online? Schedule a consultation? Visit in person?

● How will you track success? Email signups, purchases, inquiries?

Sample Campaigns

Campaign 1: Fitness Coaches & Personal Trainers

Goal: Sell branded workout shirts to trainers—and help them resell to their clients.

Where to Advertise: Instagram, Facebook Ads, Website

How to Build It:

  1. Create Instagram and Facebook business accounts.

  2. Use Facebook Business Manager for running and tracking ads.

  3. Build a landing page tailored to personal trainers with a clear CTA (e.g., sign up for wholesale pricing or custom design session).

  4. Include images/videos of trainers wearing the apparel.

  5. Write multiple versions of ad copy for testing.

  6. Track engagement via Facebook Pixel.

  7. Set up a follow-up email flow.

  8. Budget for ad testing—some ads will flop, and that’s okay.

Campaign 2: Local Moms from Pregnancy to Toddler Years

Goal: Offer customized baby and mom products.

Where to Advertise: Local farmers markets, local news outlets, coffee shops

How to Build It:

  1. Attend local markets and bring sample products.

  2. Display and sell smaller items (mugs, mom shirts) and take custom orders on the spot.

  3. Collect email addresses at your booth.

  4. Place ads in the local paper or mom-focused newsletters with a strong CTA (e.g., “Visit us at the Market” or “Text us for a custom baby shower gift consult”).

  5. Offer a valuable incentive: a free monogram, design consultation, or discount.

  6. Use high-quality images of your work—consider paying for professional ad design.

  7. Begin advertising a few weeks before your market appearance.

Don’t Forget Referrals

Whether in-person or online, always have a referral strategy in place. Word-of-mouth is still one of the most powerful marketing tools—and when combined with a strong ad strategy, it creates exponential growth within your niche.
