What IS the Roland BN-20A?
The Roland BN20a is a 20” print and cut machine that uses special eco-solvent inks.
Think of it like a larger, commercial version of a cutter you might be familiar with. Like a Cricut or Silhouette hobby cutter, but one that does everything about them more and better.
Size Matters
Larger Vinyl Cutters are Faster and more Profitable
When you’re in BUSINESS you’re likely to get bigger orders, like an order of 50 custom t-shirts or 100 decals for novelty glassware or to do branded coolers or travel cups. That’s when the fact that the Roland BN-20a is a TWENTY INCH roll vinyl cutter really makes the difference.
Because with a 20” roll of printable vinyl you don’t have to feed 1 sheet after another to get your prints. You won’t need to babysit your machine to make sure each one comes out right. And the print speed is just FASTER than any hobby cutter can match.
Plus, buying vinyl by the roll is always a better price per square inch. The bigger the roll, the better that pricing usually is. Cheaper supplies mean more profit.
Professional Quality Printing
Roland has a well-deserved reputation for amazing quality prints in their print and cut machines. That’s why so many very large commercial printers rely on their biggest machines.
The “print” part of the BN-20a print and cut machine means you can produce stunning, full-color graphics. Professional quality graphics for stickers, window clings, custom tees, and banners among other things.
Print quality starts at the top with 1440 x 1080 dpi prints. That’s the most exacting resolution that produces the most vibrant prints. If you’re doing retail store displays, fashion signage, or just have demanding clients – this is what you’ll use.
OR – you can try the new High-Speed Mode for quick turnaround and everyday projects. Either way, your customers will be thrilled with the results!
Quick Comparison to the Roland BN-20
The Roland BN-20 has been a staple of the custom t-shirt business, promotional products, and sign business for almost a decade. And it’s still the best print-cut machine on the market for investment.
But BN-20 owners have been asking for 1 thing – that it be FASTER!
And that’s why the BN-20a was born with a high-speed unidirectional or bidirectional printing mode. Which takes the speed from 6.6 sq ft/hour printing to an incredibly fast 22.6 sq ft/hour printing!
The other big change with the BN-20a is that this is a CMYK-only printer. You’ll get all the colors you would expect on a full-color inkjet printing system, but unlike the BN-20 there’s no white ink or silver/metallic ink option available.
That change in inks was because neither of those was used very often by Roland customers, and they increased the need for maintenance on the printers.
So the BN-20a is less expensive, easier to maintain, AND faster than the BN-20.

First, the BN-20a STILL includes VersaWorks 6, which is one of the easiest to use software applications of its kind.
It includes a modern, intuitive interface with drag and drop features, printing ques for process, and tools to control:
- Layout
- Quality
- Color Management Settings
- Advanced Job Management
Plus, it includes Roland Color System and PANTONE® libraries, giving you detailed spot color matching and automated color matching of logos and other design elements.
- Integrated Contour Cutting
Most traditional printer cutters use a solenoid and voltage to control blade movements and cutting force.
The Roland BN-20a uses a motor and bearing instead. The result is better control, more consistency, and a higher cutting force.
- Printing, Cutting and Help with Lamination Cuts
With its ability to print and cut in a single operation, the Roland is ideal for applications like apparel, and even wall graphic decoration.
For example, you can print, remove the print for lamination, and then return that laminated output to the printer for precision contour cutting! Ideal for decals or labels that require lamination.
