Sublimation Printing on Sequin Fabric

Sublimation printing onto sequin fabric provides a unique look and feel. Whether your are starting a new business or expanding your own, this method of customization proves advantageous for individual projects. It serves as an excellent avenue for expanding an existing sublimation business.

What Is Sequin Fabric?

Sequin fabric is composed of plastic or metal elements. Referred to as sequins, which come in diverse sizes, shapes, and colors. These sequins may exhibit a glossy or matte finish and the fabric itself can be reversible or one-sided. This fabric can reflect light creating a luminous and shiny appearance.

What Are Reversible Sequins?

How Do You Print on Sequins?

Check out this video tutorial on how to sublimate sequin fabric.

Step 1:

Design Creation: Start by measuring the sublimation blank to find the design space available. Create a customized design based off the measurements taken. Use high resolution artwork and/or true photo quality images.

Preset the heat press to 380 degrees and the pressure to medium. Load the sublimation printer with specialty sublimation transfer paper.

Step 2:

Print Design Transfer: Upload the design into a sublimation printer software. Choose the correct paper setting and mirror the design before printing. Print the design transfer. Remember, the transfer may appear dull on the paper—this is normal.

Remove the sublimation transfer from the printer. Trim the transfer to the designs shape and size.

Step 3:

Prepare The Pillow for Press: Next, prepare the sublimation blank. Start by placing it on a flat surface.

*This sublimation blank has creases and a zipper. The print perfect pad will lift the fabric providing a smooth even surface for the design transfer to sublimate onto.

Insert the print perfect pad. Flip all sequins to the sublimation side. In this case, all the white sequins should appear visible.

Step 4:

Press The Design: Place the sublimation blank into the heat press and cover it with a sheet of parchment paper. Ensure that the zipper is outside of the heat press platen. Pre-press the sublimation blank for 10 seconds, at 380 degrees, and use medium pressure.

Once the sublimation blank has been pre-pressed, remove the protective sheet. Place the design transfer onto the sublimation blank, image side down. Place a protective sheet over the transfer before pressing. Press for 120 seconds (about 2 minutes), at 380 degrees, and use medium pressure.

Step 5:

Reveal Your Finished Product: Wearing heat resistant gloves, open the press and remove the transfer paper to reveal the customized design.

Let the customized item cool completely before flipping or reversing the sequins.

The results are amazing! Sublimating sequin embellishments can make an ordinary project into something extraordinary. The Sawgrass SG1000 makes it easy.
